About

War Creek Campground is located near the confluence of War Creek and the Twisp River in the Methow Valley Ranger District of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. The campground features two distinct sections that accommodate different camping styles. One section stretches along the seasonal War Creek with long parking aprons well-suited to recreational vehicles, where campers can hear the sounds of the Twisp River in the distance. A few sites are situated in a small grassy meadow. The other section is smaller and positioned just off the roadway, best suited for smaller vehicles and tent campers. Mature Douglas fir trees provide ample shade to most campsites, while a thick middle and understory layer ensures good privacy between sites in both sections. The campground serves as a convenient base for exploring nearby trails, including the War Creek Trailhead, Eagle Creek/Oval Trailhead, and Twisp River Trail Trailhead. The area sits at 2,400 feet elevation and is accessed via Twisp River Road and Forest Road 44, approximately 14.4 miles northwest of Twisp. Rattlesnakes are occasionally seen in the area, so visitors should remain aware of their surroundings.

Directions

From Twisp, turn west off State Highway 20 onto paved Twisp River Road (County Road 9114) which, at 12 miles, turns into Forest Road 44, and then at 2.4 more miles, turn left into War Creek Campground (14.4 total miles northwest of Twisp).
