About
Roads End Campground was situated at the terminus of Forest Road 4440 along the Twisp River, approximately 25 miles northwest of Twisp in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. This remote campground served as a gateway to the Gilbert Trailhead, offering access to popular trails including Twisp Pass Trail 432, Copper Pass Trail 426, and North Creek Trail 413. The campground was a first-come, first-served facility with basic amenities and no drinking water or restroom facilities available. It historically charged $10 per night for single sites with an additional $5 fee for a second vehicle, with a 14-day maximum stay limit. The site experienced light usage due to its remote location at the end of a long gravel forest road. Roads End Campground is now permanently closed and the Forest Service is decommissioning the access road. Visitors seeking camping opportunities in the area should explore other campgrounds along the Twisp River corridor or dispersed camping options where permitted.
Directions
From Twisp, turn west off State Highway 20 onto Twisp River Road (County Road 9114) and drive about 12 miles. The paved road becomes Forest Service Road 44, then turns into gravel Forest Road 4440. Continue 13 miles to the end of the road. Note: The campground is permanently closed and the access road is being decommissioned.
