The campground is currently closed for the season but should be opening soon. Highway 20 eastern section reopened April 30, 2026. The western section between Porcupine Creek and Diablo Lake remains closed for emergency repairs with full highway reopening expected by late June 2026. Lone Fir typically operates from late May through November when Highway 20 is open.

About

Lone Fir Campground sits in a forested setting surrounded by mountain scenery along Early Winters Creek on Washington's North Cascades Scenic Highway. At 3,600 feet elevation and 27 miles northwest of Winthrop, the campground provides a convenient base for exploring the Methow Valley and North Cascades region. Direct access to Lone Fir Trail #535 starts from the campground, and Cutthroat Creek Trail #483 is nearby. The campground features vault toilets but no potable water, so campers must bring their own water supply. Sites accommodate up to 2 tents or 1 RV and 1 tent, with a maximum of 2 vehicles per site. This is a popular overnight spot for bicyclists traveling the North Cascades Highway. Early Winters Creek is closed to fishing per Washington State regulations. Lone Fir operates seasonally, opening when Highway 20 clears of snow in late spring and closing when the highway shuts down for winter, typically in late November or early December. All sites are first-come, first-served with no advance reservations available. The maximum stay is 14 days.
