Twinwood Lake Recreation Area sits on the shores of Twinwood Lake in the Manistee National Forest, where Bigelow Creek feeds into the lake and creates a good current. This beautiful area is forested with white pine and provides ample opportunity for wildlife viewing throughout the year. Swans are regular visitors to the lake, and eagles have historically nested in the area. Waterfowl are plentiful, making this a popular destination for hunting and fishing in season. Ice fishing is particularly popular on Twinwood Lake during winter months. The campground operates year-round and is partially maintained in winter, with plowed access roads and parking but no toilet facilities available during the coldest months. The site offers 8 vehicle parking spaces with trailer capacity and vault toilets during the main season. The campground is situated near the North Country National Scenic Trail and 40th St. Trailhead, providing access to hiking opportunities. The rustic setting and light usage level make this an ideal spot for campers seeking a quiet escape in the national forest. Sites are first-come, first-served at $10 per night, with Interagency Senior and Access pass discounts available.

Directions

From White Cloud, travel south on M-37 for 5 miles. Turn left and travel east on 40th St. for 0.5 miles. Turn right and travel south on Basswood Rd. for 0.5 miles. Turn left and travel east on FR 5448 for 0.3 miles. The road terminates at the site.
