About

Newaygo State Park encompasses 400 acres atop 20-foot embankments overlooking Hardy Dam Pond, a 6-mile impoundment of the Muskegon River. The park features two rustic campgrounds, Oak (sites 1-48) and Poplar (sites 49-99), with 99 total campsites noted for their spacious, private character and scenic beauty. Each site is separated by substantial 20- to 30-foot forested buffers providing exceptional privacy. The park caters primarily to campers, anglers, and recreational boaters. A boat launch is located between the two campgrounds with limited mooring spots reserved for registered campers. The Poplar campground features a buoyed swimming area. Kayak rentals are available from the campground office from early June through mid-September. The park's 18-hole disc golf course operates year-round. Newaygo State Park borders the Manistee National Forest, providing easy access to additional trails and outdoor recreation. A 2-mile stretch of the Dragon Trail traverses the embankment with overviews of Hardy Dam Pond. The Fred Meijer White Pine Trail State Park is located 7 miles east. During winter, ice anglers can access the lake with ORVs and snowmobiles, with parking available in the disc golf area and select plowed campsites.
