Hungerford Horse Camp sits within the 6,500-acre Hungerford Recreation Area in Michigan's Manistee National Forest. The nonmotorized recreation area features heavily forested terrain of oak, maple, aspen, and red and white pine across hilly to very hilly topography. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, lantern post, and picket poles for highline horses. Shared facilities include a vault toilet, trash disposal, manure disposal area, and a large group campfire ring. The campground provides direct access to over 50 miles of premier horse trails and 10 miles of mountain bike trails across two loops. Blue diamond markers identify bike trails while blue diamonds with horse symbols mark equestrian routes. Hungerford Lake, a 30-acre lake about one mile south, offers fishing for bass, pike, and panfish with a boat ramp available. Horses are prohibited at the lake and surrounding area. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov. The Hungerford Equestrian Group Campsite consists of eight individual sites, each accommodating one large horse trailer, two vehicles, and up to eight people. Interagency Senior and Access Recreation Passes provide a 50% discount on single site fees.

From Big Rapids on US-131: Take M-20 west 8.5 miles to Cypress Ave. Go 0.5 miles north on Cypress Ave. Turn right on Hungerford Lake Drive and proceed 0.5 miles. Turn north on FR5134 and travel 2 miles to the campsite.
