Hungerford Equestrian Group Campsite is a dedicated horse camping facility in the Manistee National Forest, perched on lightly rolling hills about a mile north of Hungerford Lake. The group camp consists of 8 individual sites that can accommodate up to 64 people total. Each site features picket poles for highlining horses, a fire ring, picnic table, and lantern post. Horse trailers up to 60 feet in length can be accommodated with back-in access. The campground provides direct access to over 47 miles of horseback riding trails and 10 miles of mountain biking trails, making it an ideal base for equestrian adventures. A vault toilet, manure disposal area, trash disposal, and large group campfire ring serve the entire campground. Note that potable drinking water is not available on-site; campers must obtain water from Hungerford Campground located 1.25 miles south. Hungerford Lake, spanning 30 acres, lies about a mile to the south and offers fishing for bass, pike, and panfish, along with a boat ramp. Horses are not permitted in or around the lake area. The surrounding Manistee National Forest comprises 540,000 acres and extends to the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, with nearby attractions including Big Rapids, Loda Lake Wildflower Sanctuary, and several smaller lakes.

From Big Rapids on US-131: Take M-20 west 8.5 miles to Cypress Ave. Go 0.5 miles north on Cypress Ave. Turn right on Hungerford Lake Drive and proceed 0.5 miles. Turn north on FR5134 and travel 2 miles to the group campsite.
