About

Hungerford Trail Camp sits within the 6,500-acre Hungerford Recreation Area in the Huron-Manistee National Forest, serving as a base for equestrian adventurers exploring over 47 miles of horseback riding trails. The campground features 8 individual sites spread along lightly rolling, forested hills. Each site is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, lantern post, and picket poles for securing horses via highline. The camp provides basic amenities including vault toilets, a manure disposal area, trash service, and a large communal campfire ring. Potable water is not available on-site but can be obtained at the Hungerford Campground about 1.25 miles to the south. No hookups are available, making this a primitive camping experience suited to self-sufficient campers. Hungerford Lake and the nearby Toogood and Mud Lakes offer fishing for bass, pike, and panfish, though horses are not permitted in the lake area. Mountain bikers also use the recreation area via separate 10-mile trail system. The campground operates seasonally from May 1 through October 31.
