About
Twin Springs Campground occupies a historically significant site along the Oregon Trail's Hudspeth's Cutoff in Curlew National Grassland. During the California Gold Rush after 1849, this location served as the only water stop for 22 miles, making it a critical waypoint for westward emigrants. The twin springs that give the campground its name still flow today, though the water pump may require manual operation. The campground offers five designated sites arranged in a loop, each equipped with a sturdy picnic table and fire ring. A vault toilet serves the campground. The surrounding landscape features rolling hills of sagebrush typical of the Curlew National Grassland, with wildflowers appearing in spring. At approximately 5,150 feet elevation, the area provides opportunities for wildlife viewing and exploring Oregon Trail history. Access is via an oiled road that transitions to a more primitive surface near the campground. The site operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees or reservations required. The campground is managed by the Caribou-Targhee National Forest's Westside Ranger District.
