Twin Lakes
Open — Open year-round with reservations available via Recreation.gov. Gate opens at 7:00 a.m. and locks at 10:00 p.m. Maximum stay is 14 consecutive days within any 30-day period.
Special Weather Statement issued March 23 at 2:44AM EDT by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC
Dry brush and leaf litter have become very dry in recent days due to breezy conditions and low relative humidity. These conditions are forecast again today. Relative humidity will fall below 30 percent for much of the afternoon and evening hours, and wind gusts may reach 25 to 30 mph at times. Given the dry vegetation, outdoor fires will be able to spread quickly once started, increasing the danger of wildfires. Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you can burn today. If you do burn, use extreme caution since fires can quickly get out of hand under these conditions.
About
Twin Lakes Recreation Area is one of the most popular campgrounds on Lake Hartwell, operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This 152-acre facility consists of dense pine and mixed hardwood forest situated on moderate to gently sloping terrain along the eastern shore of the lake. The campground features 102 public campsites, all equipped with water and electric hookups, making it suitable for both RVs and tent camping. The facility is well-appointed with five comfort stations offering hot showers, two dump stations, five playgrounds, and a designated swim beach. Day-use facilities are separated from camping areas to prevent user conflicts and include 27 picnic sites, two standard picnic shelters with water and electric service, a two-lane boat ramp, courtesy dock, two comfort stations, playground, and two designated swim beaches. The campground includes paved roads and parking throughout. Located just five miles from Clemson and Clemson University, Twin Lakes provides convenient access to grocery stores, restaurants, and gas stations while maintaining a natural setting along Lake Hartwell's 962 miles of shoreline. The site experiences very high occupancy rates throughout the year and serves as Hartwell Lake's highest producer of camping revenue. Boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, and biking are popular activities, with multiple trails throughout the shoreline area.
