About
Tugaloo State Park sits on a 393-acre wooded peninsula jutting into the massive 55,590-acre Lake Hartwell in Georgia's Appalachian foothills. The campground features 105 developed sites for tents, trailers, and RVs, with most offering spectacular lake views in multiple directions. Many sites include water and electric hookups, and some seasonal sites have full hookups with cable TV. Additionally, 11 walk-in primitive campsites are located a short walk from parking for tent campers seeking a more secluded experience. The park's lakefront location makes it a premier destination for water recreation. A six-lane mega ramp accommodates large fishing tournaments and provides easy boat access. Lake Hartwell offers excellent year-round fishing, particularly for largemouth bass, along with opportunities for swimming at the sandy beach, water skiing, sailing, and boating. Seasonal kayak and canoe rentals are available. On land, the Sassafras and Muscadine hiking trails wind 4 miles through forests of oak, walnut, mulberry, and cherry trees. Additional amenities include picnic shelters, a group pavilion, tennis and volleyball courts, and miniature golf. The park also offers 20 cottages and 6 yurts for those preferring roof-top accommodations, some with private boat docks. The name Tugaloo derives from the indigenous name for the river that once flowed here before Hartwell Dam created the lake. The park is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., with a daily parking fee required for all visitors.
