Broyles Recreation Area is a 24-acre day-use facility operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers on Hartwell Lake in Anderson County, South Carolina. The recreation area sits on gently to moderately sloping terrain covered primarily with pine vegetation and offers extensive amenities for lake access and day recreation. The centerpiece of the facility is a three-lane boat ramp with a courtesy dock, making it a favorite location for large fishing tournaments throughout spring and summer. A parking expansion completed in 2018 added approximately 30 boat trailer spaces and 8 single car spaces to accommodate the area's popularity. Additional recreational features include a designated swimming beach, fishing pier, 14 individual picnic sites, one group picnic shelter with water and electric service, a playground, and comfort stations with flush toilets. Hartwell Lake is a man-made reservoir on the Savannah, Tugaloo, and Seneca Rivers, spanning the Georgia-South Carolina border with 962 miles of shoreline. The dam and lake were originally authorized for hydropower, flood control, and navigation, with recreation, water quality, water supply, and fish and wildlife management added later. The lake supports 8 campgrounds and 11 day-use facilities managed by the Corps. Broyles Recreation Area is open year-round as a day-use facility with a $7 per vehicle entrance fee. The group picnic shelter can be reserved from April 1 through September 30. One volunteer host campsite is maintained on-site, but no public camping is permitted.
