About

Twin Lakes Campground occupies historic ground in the Allegheny National Forest. The McKean Chemical Company operated wood alcohol production here until the 1920s, using a splash dam to control water levels. After the Forest Service acquired the property, the Civilian Conservation Corps constructed the present dam on Hoffman Run in 1936, creating the 10-acre swimming impoundment, along with the lower campground, picnic area, pavilion, and bathhouse. The campground features upper and lower camping loops with 48 single sites, one double site, and two group sites accommodating up to 50 people each. The lower loop offers electric hookups while the upper loop is non-electric. Each site has a fire ring, picnic table, and tent pad. A dump station is available, though potable water is not currently provided. Vehicle height is limited to 10 feet due to a railroad underpass on the entrance road, and maximum RV length is 28 feet. Recreation centers on the spring-fed lake, which is stocked with trout and features a swimming beach and accessible fishing piers. No boats are permitted on the impoundment. Mill Creek offers native trout fishing accessible via the Mill Creek Trail. The Black Cherry National Recreation Interpretive Trail features nearly 40 educational displays and connects to the Twin Lakes Trail, one of the longest in the forest.
