About
Twin Dikes Park is situated on the southern shore of Sam Rayburn Reservoir in the Piney Woods of southeast Texas, within the Big Thicket region. Operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the park provides well-developed camping facilities with 48 sites ranging from tent-only and non-electric options to full-service sites with electric, water, and sewer hookups. Three screened shelter sites offer a unique camping experience with 30 amp service. The park features waterborne restrooms with hot showers, a group picnic shelter, and two boat ramps with eight launching lanes total, making it especially popular with anglers. Sam Rayburn Reservoir, impounded in 1965 along the Angelina River, spans 114,000 acres with an average depth of 80 feet. The lake is a premier fishing destination, particularly for largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish, attracting over 300 fishing tournaments annually. Twin Dikes serves as a hub for many of these tournaments. The region is characterized by temperate coniferous forests and lies in the migration path of warblers, vireos, and other neotropical migrants, making spring an excellent time for birdwatching. Hiking and interpretive trails established in 2011 provide opportunities to explore the surrounding forest. Sam Rayburn Marina Resort is located adjacent to the park, offering additional services and amenities.
