About
Letney Recreation Area is a historic US Forest Service site on Sam Rayburn Reservoir in Angelina National Forest, Jasper County, Texas. The site was established as a camping unit and documented in USFS records dating back to 1967. Sam Rayburn Reservoir is the largest lake entirely within Texas at 114,000 surface acres, offering extensive fishing, boating, and water recreation opportunities. The Angelina National Forest surrounds portions of the reservoir, providing access to both developed and primitive camping experiences. The Letney site is located in a region with several other USFS and Army Corps of Engineers recreation areas, including nearby facilities like Ebenezer Park, Sandy Creek, Caney Creek, and Boykin Springs.
Directions
From Jasper, Texas, head north on US-96 for approximately 10 miles. Turn left onto FM 255 and continue for about 5 miles. The entrance to Letney Recreation Site will be on your right.
