Located on the 114,000-acre Sam Rayburn Reservoir within Angelina National Forest, Caney Creek Recreation Area provides a rustic camping experience with 26 primitive campsites. Each site includes a tent pad, picnic table, campfire ring, and lantern post, with parking for up to two vehicles per site. The campground features a concrete boat ramp and direct reservoir access, making it popular with anglers and boaters. This is a pack-it-in, pack-it-out facility with no drinking water or trash service available. Two vault toilets are located at the boat ramp parking area. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis only, with payment accepted via cash, check, or the Recreation.gov mobile app's Scan and Pay feature. Quiet hours are enforced from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Campers should come prepared with adequate water supplies and plan to pack out all trash. The remote location accessed via FM 2743 and Forest Service Road 336 offers a peaceful setting for those seeking a more primitive camping experience near excellent fishing and boating opportunities on Sam Rayburn Reservoir.
