About

Boykin Springs Campground is located on Boykin Springs Lake in Angelina National Forest near the Louisiana border in eastern Texas. This recreation area offers a full range of outdoor activities including camping, hiking, fishing, picnicking, and swimming in a scenic pine forest setting. The campground features 9 sites capable of accommodating RVs up to 24 feet long, each equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post. The facility includes a bathhouse with flush toilets and hot showers, with drinking water available throughout the campground via faucets. Boykin Springs serves as the trailhead for the Sawmill Hiking Trail, which leads 4.3 miles out-and-back to the historic Aldrige Sawmill site. The lake offers fishing and swimming opportunities, and a historic CCC-built picnic shelter is available for group reservations. Boykin Springs protects one of the last remaining stands of old-growth longleaf pine forest in the Piney Woods ecoregion, making it one of the most ecologically significant sites in the National Forests in Texas. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations for campsites. Day-use hours are 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and quiet time is enforced from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Directions

From Zavalla, travel east on Highway 63 for 10.5 miles; turn right south on Forest Service Road 313 for 2.5 miles to the campground.
