About
Boykin Springs Recreation Area occupies a picturesque setting around a 9-acre spring-fed lake in Angelina National Forest, east Texas. Originally constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1938, the area retains historic character while offering modern amenities including a bathhouse with flush toilets and hot showers. Potable drinking water is available from faucets throughout the campground, though individual sites lack hookups. The campground provides standard nonelectric sites equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and lantern posts. Nine sites can accommodate RVs up to 24 feet in length. Activities include fishing in the lake, swimming, and hiking the Sawmill Trail which begins at the recreation area. A picnic shelter accommodating up to 74 people is available by reservation for day-use gatherings. Quiet hours are observed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Pets are permitted but must be leashed (6 feet maximum) or otherwise physically restrained, and are prohibited in swimming areas except for service animals.
Directions
From Zavalla, travel east on Highway 63 for 10.5 miles; turn right (south) on Forest Service Road 313 for 2.5 miles to the campground.
