About

San Augustine Park is nestled along the Ayish Bayou tributary on the shores of Sam Rayburn Reservoir, the largest man-made lake entirely within Texas boundaries. The park features 100 campsites with 30-amp electric and water hookups, including five designated tent-only sites. Three waterborne restroom and shower buildings serve the campground. The reservoir spans over 114,000 surface acres and is fed by the Angelina River, creating exceptional fishing opportunities for largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish. The lake hosts more than 500 bass tournaments annually. Spring brings outstanding birding opportunities as neotropical species like warblers and vireos pass through the piney woods en route to the Gulf of Mexico. Park amenities include a group shelter, designated swim beach open April through September, volleyball court, boat ramp, and interpretive trail. The surrounding piney woods region features native orchids, insect-eating plants, and diverse wildlife. Hikers can access a 28-mile trail from the eastern edge of the lake that extends to Toledo Bend Reservoir.
