About

San Augustine Park occupies a scenic stretch of shoreline along the Ayish Bayou tributary of Sam Rayburn Reservoir in the piney woods of East Texas. The campground provides 100 sites equipped with 30-amp electric service and water hookups, plus a group shelter with electric service. Sites feature paved driveways, fire pits, picnic tables, and lantern poles, with many offering shade. Restroom and shower facilities serve the campground, along with a dump station and potable water supply stations. Sam Rayburn Reservoir spans over 114,000 surface acres, making it the largest man-made lake entirely within Texas. The lake is fed by the Angelina River and has earned a reputation as one of the state's premier bass fisheries, hosting more than 500 tournaments annually. Game fish include largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish. The park provides a boat ramp and courtesy dock with kayak launch for water access. Spring brings excellent birding opportunities as neotropical migrants including warblers and vireos pass through en route to the Gulf of Mexico. The park's designated swim beach operates April through September, and an interpretive trail winds through the native piney woods habitat. A 28-mile hiking trail begins at the eastern edge of the lake and extends east to Toledo Bend Reservoir.
