Turtle River South Campground is located within Turtle River State Park, a CCC-era park constructed in the 1930s along the meandering Turtle River. The South Campground section features modern campsites equipped with electric and water hookups, positioned among shaded, wooded sites that provide a secluded camping experience. The campground is served by a modern comfort station shared between the North and South campgrounds, featuring flush toilets, hot showers, and year-round availability of facilities during the main season. The park encompasses 775 acres of wooded valley and offers extensive recreational opportunities. Campers have direct access to more than 13 miles of multi-use trails winding through forested hills and along the river corridor. The Turtle River is stocked with rainbow and brown trout, providing fly fishing opportunities. The campground includes several double sites that can accommodate multiple RVs and up to 12 people, making it suitable for group camping. A sewage dump station is available on-site during the main season. Turtle River State Park operates under a seasonal service model, with full services typically available from mid-May through September, transitioning to limited services during fall, winter, and spring months. Winter visitors can still camp but should be prepared for reduced amenities. The park remains a destination for year-round recreation including cross-country skiing on groomed trails, sledding, and snowshoeing.

Directions

From Grand Forks, North Dakota, take US Highway 2 west for approximately 22 miles to Arvilla. Turn north onto Park Avenue and continue for about 2 miles to reach Turtle River State Park.
