About
Sherlock Park Campground occupies land within the Red River State Recreation Area, established after the devastating 1997 flood that prompted federal buyouts of homes in the floodplain. The campground offers 113 sites in an urban setting: 85 full-hookup sites with water, sewer, and electric (including 50-amp service), electric-only sites, and rustic tent sites. Four secluded walk-in campsites border the Red River, accessible via mowed paths and offering direct shoreline fishing access. The campground features modern amenities including a handicapped-accessible bathhouse with hot showers and flush toilets, a dump station, potable water, and complimentary Wi-Fi. Every site includes a picnic table and fire ring. A playground with slides and swings provides entertainment for families. The adjacent Greenway Trail offers approximately 20 miles of paved multi-use paths encompassing both the Minnesota and North Dakota sides of the Red River, connecting to the metro bike path system. Wildlife viewing opportunities include great blue herons, bald eagles, and migratory songbirds along the river corridor. The nearby River Heights Trail Head offers reservable picnic shelters, additional parking, restrooms, and shoreline fishing areas.
