About

Trappers Rest Campground is a primitive camping area nestled within Turtle River State Park in Grand Forks County, North Dakota. This secluded tent campground is situated in a beautiful wooded valley along the Turtle River, offering campers a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature. The park encompasses 784 acres of forested hills and river corridors, providing a rare oasis of trees in the North Dakota landscape. The campground serves as an excellent base for outdoor recreation, with the Keystone Bridge Trail beginning directly from Trappers Rest and connecting to the park's extensive network of over 13 miles of trails. These paths wind through wooded hillsides and along the river corridor, perfect for hiking, mountain biking, and wildlife viewing. The Turtle River is stocked with rainbow trout, offering fishing opportunities for anglers. Constructed during the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, Turtle River State Park retains much of its historic character with original stone bridges and log structures still visible throughout the grounds. The park offers year-round recreation, with trails transforming into cross-country skiing and snowshoeing routes during winter months. Park amenities include flush toilets, showers, and a dump station, though Trappers Rest itself is a primitive camping area without hookups.
