About
Turnipseed Campground is a primitive hunter camp nestled in the Talladega National Forest near the Cheaha Wilderness Area in Clay County, Alabama. The setting is especially scenic during fall when the surrounding hardwood forests display vibrant autumn colors. The campground provides a rustic base for exploring the wilderness area and accessing hiking and backpacking trails. Facilities are minimal, befitting its primitive camp designation. The site has vault toilets but no potable water, so campers must bring their own water supply. At $5 per night, it offers an affordable option for those seeking a backcountry experience without the crowds of nearby Cheaha State Park. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis and is not available through the Recreation.gov reservation system.
Directions
Travel Highway 281; campground entrance is approximately 1.5 miles past Cheaha State Park.
