About
Big Oak Hunter Camp is a specialized 1,700-acre hunting facility in the Talladega National Forest, uniquely designated as the only physically disabled hunting area in the forest. The camp sits within the Choccolocco Wildlife Management Area and provides primitive camping opportunities for hunters with physical disabilities who hold the required state permits. The facility features vault toilets and handicap-accessible accommodations, food plots, and plantations designed to support hunters with physical restrictions. No potable water is available, so campers must bring their own supply. There are no fees to use the camp. To hunt at Big Oak, visitors need a permit from the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Department, a Wildlife Management Area permit, and a valid Alabama hunting license. Check-in time is 2:00 p.m. and check-out is 12:00 p.m. Quiet hours are observed from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
