About
Pine Glen Recreation Area offers 21 primitive campsites in the Shoal Creek Ranger District of Talladega National Forest. The campground is centrally located in the Choccolocco Wildlife Management Area, making it a favorite base camp for hunters. Each site includes a cooking grill, and vault toilets are provided. Campers must bring their own drinking water as none is available on site. The recreation area provides direct access to the Pinhoti Trail, Alabama's longest hiking trail spanning over 300 miles. High Rock Lake, a 19-acre lake, lies about one mile south of the campground, while Sweetwater Lake (58 acres) is located along the Pinhoti Trail between Coleman Lake and Pine Glen. Both offer fishing opportunities. Operating on a first-come, first-served basis year-round, camping costs $3 per night. Senior and Access Pass holders receive a 50% discount. Check-in is at 2:00 p.m., check-out at noon, with quiet hours from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Camping is limited to 14 consecutive days.
Directions
From the intersection of HWY 78 and FS Road 500, travel north on FS Road 500 for approximately 7 miles to the campground entrance.
