About

The newly renovated Coleman Lake Recreation Area is peacefully nestled into the Talladega Mountains on the Shoal Creek District of Talladega National Forest. This well-equipped campground strikes a balance between modern convenience and mountain tranquility, making it ideal for recreationists seeking a retreat with amenities. The facility includes 39 campsites, all equipped with water and electrical hookups. Two comfort stations provide flush toilets and hot showers. Seven campsites are fully accessible for visitors with physical disabilities, and most sites can accommodate recreational vehicles up to 35 feet in length. Each campsite includes a table and fire pit. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with some sites available for reservation. Recreation opportunities abound at Coleman Lake. The 21-acre lake offers fishing and non-motorized boating, with swimming also permitted. Hikers can access the Pinhoti Trail directly from the campground, providing miles of scenic mountain trails. The area includes 29 picnic units, and a picnic shelter that seats 40 is available for $15 reservation fee or on a first-come basis. Wildlife viewing and birdwatching are popular activities in this mountain setting.

Directions

From Heflin, travel east on Highway 78 for approximately 8 miles. Turn onto County Road 61 and travel 8.7 miles. Turn onto Forest Service Road 500 and travel 2 miles to the campground.
