Tumbleweeds campground is situated within Curt Gowdy State Park, a premier outdoor recreation destination in the foothills of the Laramie Mountains. Located 24 miles west of Cheyenne and 24 miles east of Laramie via State Route 210, the park encompasses three reservoirs and diverse terrain ranging from low-lying meadows to massive granite formations. Tumbleweeds is one of the park's larger campgrounds and features water and electric hookups at most sites, making it suitable for RVs and trailers. The park offers exceptional outdoor recreation opportunities. Granite Springs Reservoir provides excellent fishing for rainbow trout and kokanee salmon, as well as opportunities for boating, water skiing, and paddleboarding. Crystal Reservoir offers more intimate fishing and boating with a 15 horsepower motor limit. The park features over 35 miles of IMBA-certified mountain biking trails, hiking trails, an archery range, and horseback riding opportunities. Winter activities include ice fishing and skiing. Campers at Tumbleweeds have access to the park's modern visitor center, which houses flush toilets and coin-operated showers. The park is pet-friendly and offers a mix of reservable and first-come, first-served camping. Wildlife viewing and birdwatching are popular activities, with abundant wildlife throughout the varied landscape.
Directions
From Cheyenne or Laramie, take State Route 210 (Happy Jack Road) to Granite Springs Road. The park is located 24 miles west of Cheyenne and 24 miles east of Laramie.
