Sherman Hills campground is situated within Curt Gowdy State Park, located 24 miles west of Cheyenne and 24 miles east of Laramie on State Route 210 (Happy Jack Road). The campground is part of a park system featuring 178 total campsites spread across twelve camping areas, with Sherman Hills offering both standard campsites and four premier cabins with hilltop views of Granite Springs Reservoir. The park encompasses seven sections of diverse landscape in the Laramie Mountains foothills, characterized by low-lying meadows, gently rolling hills, and massive granite formations. Three reservoirs provide excellent fishing opportunities for rainbow trout, brown trout, and kokanee salmon, along with space for various water sports. Granite Reservoir is the largest and accommodates full water sports, while Crystal Reservoir has a 15-horsepower limit. The park is renowned for its IMBA-certified mountain bike trails, extensive hiking, and wildlife viewing opportunities. Sherman Hills campground operates year-round on a reservation-only basis, with full amenities available from May 15 through September 30. The park features an archery range, boat ramps, and the historic Hynds Lodge listed on the National Register. Winter camping is available, though water systems in campgrounds are shut off October 1, with showers and flush toilets remaining accessible at the visitor center.
