Hecla Point campground is a first-come, first-serve camping area within Curt Gowdy State Park, situated along Granite Lake in the scenic terrain between Cheyenne and Laramie. The campground offers 7 tent sites (numbered 10-16) that operate on a first-come, first-serve basis year-round, making it a flexible option for spontaneous camping trips. Curt Gowdy State Park spans 3,395 acres across the rolling hills of southeastern Wyoming and is known for its IMBA-certified mountain bike trails, extensive hiking opportunities, and quality fishing on its three reservoirs. The park attracts outdoor enthusiasts year-round with activities including boating, kayaking, archery, and winter sports. The campground is equipped with basic amenities suitable for tent camping. During the main season (May 15 through September 30), water is available in the campgrounds, but it is shut off for winter on October 1st. Campers visiting in the off-season should plan to bring their own water. Flush toilets and showers remain available at the park's visitor center year-round, even when campground water is shut off.

Directions

From Cheyenne, Wyoming, take Happy Jack Road (WY-210) west for approximately 24 miles. Turn left onto Granite Springs Road and continue for about 1.5 miles to reach the campground.
