Causeway Campground occupies a prime location within Curt Gowdy State Park, a 3,500-acre recreation area straddling the Laramie Range between Wyoming's two largest cities. The campground sits near Granite Springs Reservoir, one of three reservoirs in the park that provide excellent fishing for rainbow and brown trout. The surrounding terrain features granite outcroppings, pine forests, and mountain meadows at roughly 7,400 feet elevation. Each campsite includes a picnic table, fire ring with grill, and parking spur. Vault toilets are located throughout the campground area. Potable water is available seasonally, typically from mid-spring through September, with the water system shut off around October 1 each year. The park's visitor center provides year-round access to flush toilets and showers. Electric hookups are available at select sites for an additional $10 per night. Note that Curt Gowdy State Park does not have a dump station; the nearest options are the Southeast Wyoming Welcome Center in Cheyenne (24 miles east, free) or Wyoming Territorial Prison near Laramie (24 miles west, $10 fee). The park offers extensive recreational opportunities beyond camping, including over 35 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Three reservoirs provide fishing, non-motorized boating, and paddling. Wildlife viewing is excellent, with mule deer, pronghorn, and various bird species commonly spotted.

Directions

From Cheyenne, take I-80 west to Exit 323 (Happy Jack Road/WY-210). Head west on Happy Jack Road for approximately 24 miles to the park entrance. From Laramie, take WY-210 (Happy Jack Road) east for approximately 24 miles.
