Monte Cristo

Closed — Reservations run from May 1 through September 30. Outside of the reservation season, all campsites revert to first-come, first-served. The park is open year-round for day use and camping.

About

Monte Cristo Campground sits within Curt Gowdy State Park, a premier outdoor recreation destination covering 3,395 acres in the foothills of the Laramie Mountains. Located 24 miles west of Cheyenne and 24 miles east of Laramie along Happy Jack Road, the park features seven sections of richly varied landscape with low-lying meadows, gently rolling hills, and massive granite formations. The park is centered around three reservoirs: Granite, Crystal, and North Crow. Granite Reservoir offers excellent rainbow trout and kokanee salmon fishing along with space for water sports. Crystal Reservoir, the smallest, has shoreline fishing and boating with a 15 horsepower limit. North Crow is an unimproved day-use fishing area. The park is renowned for its IMBA-certified mountain bike trails and extensive hiking opportunities. Additional amenities include a historic lodge listed on the National Register, an amphitheater for cultural events, an archery trail, and equestrian facilities including a free public horse corral.

Directions

From Cheyenne, take State Route 210 (Happy Jack Road) west for 24 miles to Granite Springs Road. From Laramie, take State Route 210 east for 24 miles.
