About

Monte Cristo Campground is part of the Crystal Campground complex at Curt Gowdy State Park, nestled in the foothills of the Laramie Mountains between Cheyenne and Laramie. The campground sits along Crystal Lake Reservoir and Middle Crow Creek, offering campers access to shoreline fishing for brown trout, rainbow trout, and kokanee salmon. The park spans over 3,300 acres of varied landscape centered around three reservoirs: Granite, Crystal, and North Crow. Crystal Reservoir is the smallest and most intimate of the three, providing a quieter camping experience. Electric hookups are available at select sites for an additional fee. Water is available seasonally but is shut off from October 1 through spring due to freezing temperatures. Curt Gowdy State Park offers an extensive trail system popular with hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. The visitor center provides shower facilities, though availability may be limited. No dump station exists at the park; the nearest options are in Cheyenne or Laramie, each approximately 24 miles away.

Directions

From Cheyenne, head west on Happy Jack Road (WY-210) for approximately 24 miles. From Laramie, travel east on Happy Jack Road for 24 miles. The park entrance is located at 1264 Granite Springs Road.
