About

Monte Cristo Campground is located at an elevation of 9,000 feet in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, approximately 30 miles east of Huntsville, Utah, along scenic Highway 39. The campground serves as a gateway to a beautiful high mountain area filled with recreational opportunities. The facility offers both single-family campsites and two group sites capable of accommodating up to 100 people each. Sites are equipped with picnic and serving tables, grills, and campfire circles, with cement pads provided at select locations. The campground provides both flush and vault toilets, drinking water, and trash collection services. Surrounded by shady aspen and spruce forests near Sugar Pine Creek, the area transforms throughout the seasons with abundant summer wildflowers and spectacular autumn foliage. The region is renowned for its extensive network of trails suitable for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and off-road vehicle use. Highway 39, part of the Ogden River Scenic Byway, attracts motorcyclists and road bicyclists seeking stunning mountain vistas through 44 miles of canyons, forests, and meadows.

Directions

From Ogden, Utah, take 12th Street up Ogden Canyon and continue on Highway 39 east of Huntsville for 30 miles. Campground is located across the highway from the Monte Cristo Guard Station.
