Trout Creek Campground

Closed — Closed for a couple more weeks due to logging and cleanup operations. The campground is not accessible during winter snow conditions.

About

Trout Creek Campground is a popular undeveloped dispersed camping area located along one of the few sizable creeks on the McCloud Flats in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. This primitive camping area features user-created sites with vault toilets provided, but campers should note there are no picnic tables at the dispersed sites. The campground requires bringing your own drinking water, and there is no trash service, so all garbage must be packed out. In recent years, the Forest Service has partnered with agencies and organizations to restore this area to its traditional habitat. Improvements include enhancements to the hydrology of the creek bed and propagation of native species. A protective perimeter fence has been installed to keep out cattle and prevent OHV use, preserving the restored ecosystem. Access to the campground includes approximately 1 mile of unpaved road from Pilgrim Creek Road.

Directions

From the McCloud Ranger Station, turn left on Highway 89. Go 2.8 miles to the turnoff for Pilgrim Creek Road (Forest Road 13). Go approximately 17 miles to the turnoff for Trout Creek. Turn left and follow the road for 1 mile to the fork and take a left for a short distance to the campground.
