About
Trout Creek Campground offers primitive dispersed camping along Trout Creek, one of the few sizable creeks on the McCloud Flats in Shasta-Trinity National Forest. This free camping area provides a handful of user-created sites with vault toilets, but campers must bring their own drinking water and pack out all trash. There are no picnic tables at the dispersed sites. The area has been the focus of recent restoration efforts through partnerships between the Forest Service and other agencies to restore traditional habitat. Improvements include creek bed hydrology restoration and native species propagation. A protective perimeter fence keeps out cattle and OHV traffic. Access requires traveling approximately 17 miles on Pilgrim Creek Road followed by 1 mile of unpaved road. The campground is not accessible during winter snow conditions. A 14-day stay limit applies, and quiet hours are enforced from 10 PM to 7 AM.
Directions
From McCloud Ranger Station, turn left on SR 89. Go 2.8 miles to the turnoff for Pilgrim Creek Road (Road 13). Continue approximately 17 miles to the Trout Creek turnoff. Turn left and follow the road for 1 mile to the fork, then take a left for a short distance to the campground.
