About

Harris Spring Campground is a primitive, undeveloped camping area nestled in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest of Siskiyou County, California. Located at approximately 5,000 feet elevation, the site provides about 15 user-created campsites dispersed in a forested setting. The campground features a vault toilet but no potable water, so visitors must bring their own supply and be prepared to pack out all trash. The area holds historical significance as the site of a former Forest Service guard station. The guard station, essentially a small cabin, has been restored by the Forest Service though it is no longer part of the cabin rental program. The remote location and surrounding forest make this a popular destination for hunters during fall hunting season. Access requires a 32-mile drive from McCloud, with the final 17 miles on Forest Road 15 (Harris Spring Road). The road is typically passable for most vehicles when dry, but high-clearance vehicles are recommended. Due to its undeveloped nature, the campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations and no fees. A 15-day stay limit applies.

Directions

From McCloud Ranger Station, turn left on Highway 89 and drive approximately 15.25 miles. Turn left onto Forest Road 15 (Harris Spring Road) and continue approximately 17 miles. The campground is on the right side of the road.
