About

Townshend State Park is a historic Vermont campground set within the Townshend State Forest, distinguished by its Civilian Conservation Corps-era architecture including the only tent platforms of this style in the Vermont State Parks system. The 34-site campground offers a mix of tent-only sites, tent/trailer sites accommodating units up to 20 feet, and four rustic lean-tos scattered throughout the forested hillside. The park centers on the 1.7-mile Bald Mountain Trail, a moderate hike ascending to the 1,680-foot summit with views of the West River valley and surrounding Green Mountains. Campers have access to flush toilets, hot and cold running water at spigots throughout the campground, and coin-operated showers. The day-use area includes a picnic shelter and basketball courts. Swimming is not available within the state park itself but is accessible at the adjacent Townshend Lake Recreation Area operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which also offers a boat ramp with a 10 HP motor limit. The campground operates seasonally from late May through early September.
