About
Hapgood Pond Recreation Area and Campground is situated next to its scenic 12-acre namesake pond in the Green Mountain National Forest, 13 miles east of Manchester, Vermont. The campground offers 28 campsites in a peaceful wooded setting on land that was among the first acquired for the Green Mountain National Forest. This is the forest's only campground with a designated and managed swim beach, making it especially popular with families. The pond, which reaches a maximum depth of 12 feet, is ideal for non-motorized boating including canoeing and kayaking, with a carry-down launch area on the south shore. Anglers can fish from shore or use the fishing pier located on the south side of the pond. The Hapgood Pond Trail begins in the day-use area and continues almost a mile around the north edge of the pond to the dam, with a short spur trail winding through the woods. A large play field provides space for games and activities. The campground is conveniently located near the town of Manchester, Vermont, known for its shops, restaurants, and attractions including the American Museum of Fly Fishing. The Green Mountain National Forest encompasses over 400,000 acres and includes portions of the Appalachian Trail, the Long Trail, and numerous other recreational opportunities.
