Hapgood Pond
The campground is closed for the season and opens May 22, 2026. Early-season construction on the boat launch may delay the pond being filled until June. The pond will be stocked with trout once the boat ramp improvements are completed.
From Recreation.gov
The Hapgood Pond recreation site will be under construction early in the season which may affect when the pond is filled with water. The non-motorized boat launch will be improved by constructing a gravel ramp which will greatly improve the visitor experience and access for getting boats in the water. Construction is planned before the campground opens for the season on May 22nd however due to many variables including favorable weather the project could still be underway into June. The pond will be filled for swimming and stocked with trout for fishing as soon as the boat ramp improvements are completed. Thank you for your patience as we improve the site for future use.
About
Hapgood Pond Recreation Area sits on the first land ever acquired for the Green Mountain National Forest, centered around a 12-acre pond ideal for swimming, fishing, and non-motorized boating. The 28-site campground is set in a wooded area with each site offering a picnic table, fire ring with grill, and parking spur. Most sites accommodate small trailers as well as tents. Vault toilets and drinking water from faucets are provided throughout. The recreation area features the forest's only designated and managed swim beach, along with a fishing pier on the south shore. A carry-down boat launch on the south end serves canoes and kayaks. The Hapgood Pond Trail begins in the day-use area and follows the north edge of the pond for nearly a mile to the dam, with a spur trail winding through the woods. A large play field offers space for frisbee and ball games. The campground operates from Memorial Day through Columbus Day. Sites 9-28 and two group picnic shelters (each accommodating up to 35 people) are reservable through Recreation.gov, while sites 1-8 remain first-come, first-served. Maximum stay is 14 days within any 30-day period. Dogs must be leashed at all times, and quiet hours run from 10 PM to 6 AM.
