About
Townshend Lake Day Use Area is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recreation facility nestled in the Green Mountains of Vermont, situated in the West River Valley behind Townshend Dam. The area provides day-use recreation only with no overnight camping available. Three large group picnic shelters (Davis, Burrington, and Stratton) are available for reservation through Recreation.gov, each equipped with electrical hookups for events. Individual picnic tables with charcoal grills are scattered throughout the park. The facility features a sandy swimming beach, a boat ramp for canoes, kayaks, and small motorboats (10hp maximum), playgrounds, volleyball courts, and horseshoe pits. The lake is stocked annually with rainbow trout, making it popular with anglers. The 1.7-mile Ledges Overlook Trail offers scenic views of the Green Mountains. Flush toilets and potable water are available seasonally. Pack-it-out policy applies for all trash.
