About
Grout Pond Campground is located in the Green Mountain National Forest along the shores of an 84-acre, 28-foot deep pond surrounded by red maple, yellow birch, and red spruce. The campground offers 12 reservable sites in a semi-remote setting, making it a popular destination for those seeking a quieter camping experience with excellent recreational opportunities. The pond is ideal for fishing and non-motorized boating, with a 200-foot carry-in boat launch accessible from an unloading area near the parking lot. Swimming is also popular, though the water can be refreshingly chilly even on hot summer days. Over 10 miles of relatively flat multi-use trails are accessible directly from the campground, connecting to a more extensive trail system around Somerset Reservoir to the south. Trails marked with blue diamond blazes are designed for cross-country skiing in winter and can be wet and muddy during other seasons. The campground also provides winter access via Forest Road 262, which doubles as a snowmobile trail. The campground is conveniently located near Appalachian Trail and Long Trail trailheads off Kelly Stand Road, as well as Stratton Mountain Resort. Fall foliage viewing is excellent in the autumn months. The Green Mountain National Forest, in partnership with Vermont Huts Association, also maintains the Grout Pond Hut within the campground, which is available for year-round reservations.
