The campground opens May 15, 2026. Due to construction on the Pond Loop Trail from May through October 2026, walk-in sites 1-11 are first-come, first-served only and are not reservable. Trail improvements are underway to meet accessible standards. Drive-in sites remain reservable via Recreation.gov. Parking in the lower lot near the pond will be very limited due to construction staging.

The Grout Pond Campground facility will be under construction during the 2026 season. The Pond Loop Trail leading walk-in sites 1 - 11 will be under construction from May - October. Campsites 1 - 11 will be open on a first-come, first-served basis and will not be reservable on Recreation.gov. The trail will be upgraded to accessible standards, which will greatly improve the visitor experience. Parking in the lower lot near the pond will be very limited due to the construction staging area. Please use caution at the site, as equipment will be using the access road and Pond Loop trail to complete the improvements. Thank you for your patience as we improve the site for future use.

About

Grout Pond Campground sits in a beautiful mixed conifer and hardwood forest along the shore of an 84-acre pond in Vermont's Green Mountain National Forest. The campground offers 17 sites total, with most being walk-in tent sites accessed via trails ranging from a quarter to three-quarters of a mile from the main parking area. A handful of drive-in sites can accommodate small RVs or car camping, though there are no hookups. The area is a popular destination for hiking, paddling, and fishing. Over 10 miles of relatively flat multiuse trails are accessible from the campground, connecting to a more extensive trail system around Somerset Reservoir to the south. A 200-foot carry-in boat launch provides access to the pond for canoes and kayaks. Fall foliage viewing is excellent with the surrounding red maple, yellow birch, and red spruce. Facilities include vault toilets, potable water from a hand pump near the pond (available Memorial Day through September), and fire rings at each site. The Vermont Huts Association operates the Grout Pond Hut for year-round cabin rentals. Maximum stay is 14 days within any 30-day period, and quiet hours are 10 PM to 6 AM.
