About

Toponce Guard Station is a historic Forest Service guard station cabin situated in Caribou County within the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. These guard stations were once the seasonal homes and offices of Forest Service employees who managed forest resources and provided visitor services. The Caribou-Targhee National Forest spans over 3 million acres in Idaho, with small portions in Wyoming and Utah, offering diverse landscapes from rugged mountains to serene rivers. Guard station cabins in the Caribou-Targhee typically provide rustic accommodations in remote forest settings, accessible by car during warmer months but often requiring snowmobiles or skis in winter. The surrounding area offers opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing. Guests using these cabins typically need to bring their own supplies, sleeping bags, and gear to make their stay comfortable. The cabin represents the historic heritage of the Forest Service and provides visitors with an opportunity to experience the remote locations where rangers once lived and worked while managing these public lands.
