Pebble Guard Station

Open — Open year-round for reservations. The access road (Forest Road 036) closes November 15 annually, requiring snowmobile, ski, or snowshoe access for approximately 6 miles on a groomed trail. Water is only available during summer season; winter guests must bring their own water. The propane heater is non-functional, so guests should bring firewood for the wood stove.

About

Pebble Guard Station offers a secluded mountain retreat in a historic 1933 cabin at 6,320 feet elevation along Pebble Creek, a tributary of the Portneuf River. The rustic one-room structure accommodates up to 6 guests on two bunkbeds with mattresses and folding cots. The cabin features a mudroom with sink and seasonal shower, propane lights, propane stove/oven, and wood stove heating. A vault toilet, picnic table, campfire ring, and grill are located outside on the fenced four-acre property. Access varies dramatically by season. From late spring through mid-November, guests can drive directly to the cabin via Forest Road 036, a 6.5-mile gravel road from Pebble Creek Road. After November 15, the access road closes and winter guests must snowmobile, ski, or snowshoe approximately 6 miles on a groomed trail, hauling all gear and supplies. Water is only available during summer months; winter guests must bring their own. The propane heater is non-functional, so firewood for the wood stove is essential. Recreation opportunities abound year-round. Summer activities include hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, OHV trails, hunting, and fishing in a nearby beaver pond. Winter transforms the area into a snowmobiling playground with groomed trails. Wildlife is abundant, including mule deer, elk, cougars, coyotes, and black bears. The cabin provides expansive views into the high country of Bonneville Peak, the highest peak in the Portneuf Range.
