Scout Mountain Campground
Currently closed for the season. The primary operating season runs late May through early September with reservations available through Recreation.gov. After the main season closes, D Loop remains open until November 14 on a first-come, first-served basis with no water service and limited restroom maintenance.

Scout Mountain Campground is located on beautiful Scout Mountain at 6,900 feet elevation, just 13 miles south of Pocatello, Idaho. The campground sits high atop the Bannock Mountain Range in a scenic forest of Douglas fir, lodgepole pine, and aspen, offering partial shade and abundant summer wildflowers. Scout Mountain is part of the Mink Creek area, a popular destination for birding enthusiasts seeking species like the Western Scrub-Jay, Mountain Bluebird, and Calliope Hummingbird. The campground offers a mix of single, double, and triple sites, plus one large group site accommodating up to 100 people. Each site includes a picnic table, campfire ring, lantern post, and tent pad. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided during the primary operating season. The paved 1-mile Scout Mountain Nature Trail loops the campground with several overlooks, while the East Fork Mink Creek Trail begins within the site and the Crestline Trail is nearby. Hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and dirt biking are popular activities in the surrounding area, though horses, livestock, and off-road vehicles are not permitted within the campground itself. Cherry Springs Nature Area is less than 6 miles away, offering fishing, picnic facilities, and paved nature trails.
Directions
Take I-15 to exit 63 south of Pocatello. Follow the brown Mink Creek Recreation Area signs to Bannock Highway for 2 miles. Turn left up the canyon. Go 4.5 miles to the East Fork Mink Creek road and turn left. Go 5.3 miles up East Fork Mink Creek road to the campground.
