About
Timon Campground is a small, quiet campground with seven sites located in scenic Little Spearfish Canyon within the Black Hills National Forest. The campground sits adjacent to Little Spearfish Creek, providing a peaceful creekside camping experience surrounded by towering limestone cliffs and mixed forest of ponderosa pine, quaking aspen, and paper birch. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire grill. Potable water is available from a hand pump during the staffed season (mid-May through September), and vault toilet facilities are provided. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. The Little Spearfish Trailhead is located nearby, offering a 6-mile non-motorized loop trail that meanders through the canyon with spectacular views. The campground closes December 1 each year as Forest Service Road 222 becomes a designated snowmobile trail for winter.
Directions
From Spearfish, travel south on US Highway 14A to Savoy, then turn right (west) onto Forest Service Road 222 (Roughlock Falls Road). Travel approximately 3.5 miles to the campground.
