About

Strawberry Recreation Site is a modest tent camping and picnic area tucked into the northern Black Hills, roughly 5 miles south of Lead and Deadwood off US Highway 385. The site accommodates tent camping at 4 of its 5 picnic sites, making it suitable for a quick overnight or day excursion. A paved sidewalk leads to a small pond equipped with fishing platforms. Amenities are basic: vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. The site operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system. Day-use costs $5 per vehicle, while overnight camping runs $18 per night, collected by the Forest Service concessionaire. The campground typically operates from mid-May through late fall. Given its tent-only designation and limited facilities, this site is best suited for minimalist campers, anglers, or those seeking a quick stop along Highway 385 rather than extended stays or RV camping.
