Order 015 - Road Use Regulations - Forest Development
Code of Federal Regulations, the following acts are prohibited on all Forest Development Roads under the jurisdiction of the Black Hills National Forest:

About
Hanna Campground is tucked away in the Northern Hills Ranger District of Black Hills National Forest, adjacent to the spruce-lined Spearfish Creek. The campground features 13 sites spread across a wide meadow surrounded by pine-covered mountains, creating a scenic and peaceful camping environment. Located within the Spearfish Canyon management area but not directly in the canyon proper, it maintains a quiet, somewhat secluded setting while remaining accessible to the Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway. During the regular season (approximately mid-May through September 30), all 13 sites are available for both tent and RV camping. After September 30, the drive-in portion closes for the winter, but walk-in tent sites remain available year-round with limited services. Campers using the winter walk-in sites can park at two road pullouts near the footbridges. Each campsite includes one fire grill and one picnic table. Drinking water is available from a hand pump during the regular season but is shut off from approximately October 1 through mid-May to prevent freezing. The campground operates entirely on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations available. The Hanna Nature Trail, a relatively easy 1.25-mile loop with some elevation gain, departs directly from the campground and offers views of the Black Hills and Spearfish Canyon. Limited groceries and gas are available at Cheyenne Crossing, about two miles north of the campground.
Directions
From Lead, SD, travel south on US Highway 85 for approximately 8 miles to just past Cheyenne Crossing and US Highway 14A. Turn left (south) onto Forest Service Road 196 and travel about 2 miles to the campground entrance. Approximately 1.5 miles south of Cheyenne Crossing.
