About
Rod And Gun Campground is a small, scenic campground with seven sites situated along Little Spearfish Creek in the Black Hills National Forest of South Dakota. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations available. Amenities include vault toilets, hand-pump drinking water (available mid-May through September 30), picnic tables, and campfire rings. The campground is located approximately 2 miles west of Savoy on Forest Service Road 222. One of the filming locations for the movie Dances with Wolves is nearby, adding historical interest to the area. Sites accommodate tents and RVs up to 45 feet with back-in gravel driveways. Peak season rates are $24 per night (mid-May through late September), with shoulder season rates at $15 per night. The campground closes December 1 annually when the access road converts to a snowmobile trail and typically reopens in mid-May.
