About
Timber Camp Recreation Area sits in the Timber Camp Mountains of Tonto National Forest, surrounded by ponderosa pine and juniper woodland at 6,000 feet elevation. The campground offers both individual and group camping options. Brundrett 1 has 13 first-come first-served campsites (12 single, 1 double occupancy) with a large shade pavilion, picnic tables, fire grills and rings, and accessible vault toilets. Brundrett 2 is a reservable group site accommodating up to 150 people with open parking for 15 RVs or 25 passenger vehicles, accessible vault toilets, campfire rings, grills, pavilion, and tables. The equestrian group site is exclusively for horse camping, accommodating up to 150 people with steel corrals, hitching rails, manure bins, parking for 25 vehicles with trailers up to 45 feet, and a fenced group gathering area with pavilion. The area provides abundant recreation opportunities including cross-country horseback riding, hiking, in-season hunting, OHV use, and wildlife viewing. The Salt River Canyon and Salt River Canyon Wilderness lie five miles east with beautiful vistas. In spring, whitewater rafting trips on the Upper Salt River launch just 20 minutes away. Weather is ideal in fall and spring, though the area may receive up to a foot of snow during winter storms. Summer temperatures range from 85-100 degrees, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms during monsoon season in July and August. The City of Globe, 24 miles south, offers restaurants, grocery stores, and other amenities.
Directions
From Globe, head north on Highway 60 toward Show Low for about 20 miles. The campground is adjacent to Highway 60 and south of the Seneca Lake Recreation Area.
