FFWPSR The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... Gila County in east central Arizona... Pinal County in southeastern Arizona... * Until 815 PM MST. * At 520 PM MST, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain mainly over Pinto Creek. Between 0.5 and 1.75 inches of rain have fallen. Runoff in Pinto Creek may travel downstream to Roosevelt Estates area in a couple hours. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Roosevelt Estates.

5:29 PM — 7:30 PM

At 526 PM MST, radar indicated scattered strong thunderstorms were located across Gila County and eastern Pinal and Maricopa Counties. Movement was west at 15 mph. Conditions are becoming more favorable for the development of additional thunderstorms and the progression of strong westward- moving outflow boundaries. Some storms may become strong to severe. Winds in excess of 40 mph and pea size hail will be possible. Strong, gusty winds will be capable of producing areas of blowing dust with reduced visibilities, especially in Pinal County. Locations impacted include... Mesa, Gilbert, Apache Junction, Florence, Fountain Hills, Coolidge, Superior, Sycamore Creek, Roosevelt, East Mesa, Sunflower, Gold Canyon, Sugarloaf Mountain, Ballantine Trailhead, Round Valley, Queen Creek, Gold Camp, Usery Mountain Park, San Tan Valley, and Florence Junction. This includes the following highways... US Highway 60 between mile markers 188 and 240. AZ Route 87 between mile markers 125 and 144, and between mile markers 189 and 229. AZ Route 202 between mile markers 23 and 37. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. These storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.

Pioneer Pass Campground sits at 6,000 feet in the Pinal Mountains of Tonto National Forest, offering free dispersed camping across four distinct areas: Granite, Toll Gate, Wagon Wheel, and Cattle Trap. Each area provides vault toilets and picnic tables with fire rings. Wagon Wheel accommodates larger groups with 4-5 tables in a more open layout, while Cattle Trap is the largest with 8 sites. The campground serves as a base for exploring the surrounding high country. The Bobtail Spring Trail leads to Pinal Peak, and the East Mountain Trail offers additional hiking opportunities. The cooler mountain elevation provides relief from Arizona's desert heat, though winters bring snowfall. This is a primitive, pack-it-out facility with no potable water, trash service, or hookups. Trailers under 16 feet may fit at some sites, but RVs are generally not recommended due to the unpaved access road and limited site sizes. One camp-unit is wheelchair accessible with compacted dirt surfaces.

Directions

From Globe, follow paved Jess Hayes Road to the junction of Icehouse Canyon Road/FR 112 and Six-shooter Canyon Road/FR 222. Continue on FR 112 for 2 miles to the junction of FR 55 and FR 112. Stay left and continue on FR 112 (which becomes unpaved) for another 6 miles to the site.
