About
Jones Water Campground is a small primitive campground located in a riparian area within the Tonto National Forest, 17 miles northeast of Globe on Highway US 60. This free camping area offers approximately 12 primitive sites equipped with picnic tables and fire rings, nestled at an elevation of 4,500 feet. The campground is ideal for those seeking a quiet, rustic camping experience in a natural desert setting. The riparian environment attracts diverse wildlife, making Jones Water a popular spot for bird watchers who come to observe the abundance of native bird species. Desert animals are commonly spotted throughout the area. The campground provides vault toilets but no potable water or trash services, so visitors must bring their own water and pack out all waste. Quiet hours are enforced from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., and stays are limited to 14 consecutive days. The campground is suitable for smaller rigs, with a recommended maximum trailer length of 20 feet due to narrow access roads. Fires are permitted only in designated fire rings when fire restrictions are not in effect. Recreation opportunities include wildlife viewing, bird watching, hiking, horseback riding, and in-season hunting. The proximity to Highway 60 means some road noise may be audible, though it typically diminishes at night.
