About
Timber Camp Recreation Area stands as one of the most popular family and group campgrounds in Tonto National Forest, nestled in the Timber Camp Mountains at 6,000 feet elevation. Surrounded by ponderosa pine and juniper woodland, this recreation area provides a cool escape during hot summer months while remaining accessible year-round. The facility includes Brundrett 1, a first-come, first-served area with 13 individual campsites, plus two reservable group sites: Brundrett 2 accommodating up to 150 people and a dedicated equestrian site with steel corrals, hitching rails, and manure bins. Located just off Highway 60 about 20 miles north of Globe, the campground sits five miles from the spectacular ledges and vistas of Salt River Canyon and the Salt River Canyon Wilderness. Recreation opportunities abound with cross-country horseback riding, hiking, in-season hunting, OHV use, and wildlife viewing all in close proximity. In spring, whitewater rafting trips on the Upper Salt River launch just 20 minutes away. The area features vault toilets, picnic tables, fire rings and grills, and shade pavilions, though no water, electrical hookups, or trash service are available.
Directions
From Globe, head north on Highway 60 toward Show Low for about 20 miles. The campground is adjacent to Highway 60 and south of the Seneca Lake Recreation Area.
