About
Timber Camp Recreation Area is one of the most popular family and group campgrounds on Tonto National Forest. Nestled in the Timber Camp Mountains at 5,500 feet elevation, the campground is surrounded by ponderosa pine and juniper woodland, providing a refreshing escape from the desert heat during summer months when temperatures range from 85-100°F. The recreation area includes three distinct camping areas: Brundrett 1 with 13 first-come, first-served individual sites (12 single and 1 double), Brundrett 2 group site accommodating up to 100 people, and an equestrian-only group site with steel corrals, hitching rails, and manure bins for up to 75 riders. Group sites are reservable through Recreation.gov up to 12 months in advance. A separate day-use facility is also available. Five miles east, the area meets the dramatic ledges and vistas of the Salt River Canyon and Salt River Canyon Wilderness. Recreation opportunities include cross-country horseback riding, hiking, in-season hunting, OHV use, and wildlife viewing. Spring whitewater rafting on the Upper Salt River launches just a 20-minute drive away. Be aware that bears and other wildlife inhabit the area.
Directions
From Globe, head north on Highway 60 toward Show Low for approximately 20 miles. The campground is adjacent to Highway 60 and south of Seneca Lake Recreation Area.
