About
Schoolhouse Campground is located 11 miles south of historic Roosevelt Dam on the eastern shores of Roosevelt Lake within Tonto National Forest. At 2,100 feet elevation, the campground offers spacious sites surrounded by mesquite trees with views of the surrounding mountains and Sonoran Desert landscape. Roosevelt Lake is Arizona's largest reservoir, providing excellent opportunities for bass and catfish fishing, motorized and non-motorized boating, kayaking, and canoeing. The campground features 40 sites in the Mesquite Loop, with most offering pull-through parking suitable for RVs and trailers up to 32 feet. Each individual site accommodates up to 10 people and 3 vehicles, while double sites hold 20 people and 6 vehicles. Amenities include shade ramadas, picnic tables, and fire rings with grills. ADA-accessible sites with paved parking and stand-up grills are available. Vault toilets are provided, but no potable water is available. Nearby attractions include the Apache Trail and Spines to Pines scenic byways, Tonto National Monument, and the Arizona Trail. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 100°F, making RV air conditioning less effective during June through August.
