About

Third Fork Cabin is a historic Forest Service guard station nestled in a steep mountain landscape heavily forested with old-growth ponderosa pine at approximately 4,700 feet elevation in Boise National Forest. First established in 1906 as Station 10 and renamed Third Fork in 1908, the current cabin was rebuilt by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1933 and has changed little since, aside from a metal roof added before 1984. The rustic cabin accommodates up to four guests with one double bed and two single beds with mattresses. Interior amenities include an indoor flush toilet, shower with hot water heater, propane cook range, refrigerator, propane heater, and a table with chairs. Guests must bring their own bedding, lighting, cookware, and utensils. The fenced yard features a picnic table, campfire ring, and pedestal grill. Potable water is available but bringing a backup supply is recommended. The area offers fishing in adjacent Squaw Creek and big game hunting opportunities. Sagehen Reservoir lies about 18 miles east with trails for OHV use, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, plus fishing and boating. Firewood can be obtained at Antelope Campground, 18 miles away. Tents, motor homes, and RVs are not permitted at the cabin, and livestock is prohibited.
