Flat Fire GNA Salvage Road and Trail Closure

About
Big Eddy Campground sits in a scenic canyon along State Highway 55, approximately 15 miles north of Banks, Idaho, at an elevation of 4,000 feet. This small 4-site campground is one of four campgrounds along the North Fork Payette River between Banks and Smiths Ferry. The campground is situated just above the highway in a diverse forest of Ponderosa and lodgepole pines that provides plentiful shade. Summer days are warm, reaching 80-90 degrees, while nights are cooler. The North Fork Payette River flows next to the highway and is a very popular destination for whitewater rafting and kayaking, with the Payette Whitewater Roundup held annually in July. Anglers will find good to excellent fishing for whitefish and rainbow trout. The campground has historical significance as a former water stop for old steam engines, and the foundation of the old water tower can still be seen across the river. Each single-family site includes a picnic table and campfire ring, with paved roads and parking spurs throughout the campground. Vault toilets are available but there is no potable water on-site. Due to the campground's proximity to Highway 55, some traffic noise should be expected. This is a popular location that operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations.
Directions
From Boise, travel north on State Highway 55 for approximately 38 miles to Banks, then continue north for approximately 15 miles to the campground sign on the right.
