About

Big Eddy Campground occupies a scenic canyon position just above Highway 55 in the Boise National Forest, approximately 15 miles north of Banks and 38 miles north of Boise. At 4,000 feet elevation, the small campground offers four shaded sites nestled among Ponderosa and lodgepole pines along the North Fork Payette River. The river corridor is renowned for whitewater rafting and kayaking, making this an ideal base camp for paddlers. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Vault restrooms are provided, but there is no potable water so campers must bring their own supply. The area holds historical interest as a former water stop for steam locomotives. Across the river, the foundation of the old water tower remains visible. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with fee collection via self-registration envelopes at the entrance.

Directions

From Boise, travel north on State Highway 55 approximately 38 miles to Banks. Continue north on Highway 55 approximately 15 miles to the campground sign. The campground is located just off the highway at 4,000 feet elevation.
